Rusty Hammers

A Story of Resurrection

Richard Morrison tells a story of an old hammer that his father put a new handle on when he broke the original one. Soon after repairing the hammer he lost it somewhere on his farm. His father was upset at the loss of so useful a tool, but life goes on. Many years later, Richard found that old hammer in the rubble of a barn. The hammer was rusty but still useful with its new handle.

I saw a life parallel in this story of the rusty hammer with an idea that I had about doing something useful around the church. Some of us, who happened to be retired men, formed a One Group and named it "The Rusty Hammers". We get together twice a month to share our life stories and our faith. Then we share our gifts with the rest of the Harrisburg United Methodist Church by fixing stuff around the church building.

So if you're just a little rusty but still have a new handle, there's always room for one more. Come and join us.
