DESCRIPTION:“Summer is right around the corner\, and it’s time to lend a helping hand! Harrisburg United Methodist Church has been called upon to support our Summer Kids program by providing NUTRI GRAIN Breakfast Bars. \nThe Pantry has projected a need for 600 bars to meet the demand. Fortunately\, this is an achievable goal. Each value pack contains 16 bars and typically costs between $5 to $6\, depending on the store. With simple math\, it’s evident that we only need approximately 37 and a half people to donate a single value pack to reach our target. \nBut we’re not just collecting these bars; we’re turning them into something truly special. The church plans to take the boxes of NUTRI GRAIN Breakfast Bars and construct a castle—a symbol of hope and community solidarity. Each box represents more than just a nutritious breakfast; it embodies the support and care of our community for those in need. \nLet’s come together as a community to ensure that our children have nutritious breakfast options throughout the summer and to build a castle of hope for them. DESCRIPTION:Sunday Morning Study for Parents Begins April 7 \nToday’s children and youth are growing up in a world much different than their parents. The access to information and availability of immediate gratification and response in all of our lives has created a culture where so many of our kids are finding themselves searching for identity\, belonging and purpose. In the church we have prided ourselves on growing up “good kids\,” and we have “good kids” in our churches. What we really need are children with strong Christ-like character. The difference between the two is action and motivation. A child with strong character will stand up for others and will be more confident in who they are as a person\, than just a person who is good. DESCRIPTION:Worship with us \nAsh Wednesday Worship\, February 14th\, 6:30pm \nAsh Wednesday invites us to reflect on our lives\, acknowledging our shortcomings and sins\, and seeking forgiveness and reconciliation with God and others. It’s a time to turn away from distractions and focus on deepening our relationship with the divine. \nFollowing Ash Wednesday\, the season of Lent unfolds—a period of fasting\, and prayer.  There are a number of ways to honor Ash Wednesday and the 40 days of Lent within your daily routines. Here are 3 of the 10 ideas suggested on UMC.org \n\n“Giving something up for Lent” is a common practice for many Christians. Often\, we give up a favorite food or try to kick a bad habit during Lent. When the change or challenge you set for yourself starts to waver pause for prayer. These practices help you to draw closer to God\, emulate the sacrificial life of Jesus\, and prepare your hearts for the celebration of Easter.\nPray your day – Pray for the drivers of the vehicles and fellow mass transit passengers with whom you share your commute. Pray as you pass the hospital\, police station\, and government offices. Lift up the trash collector and mail carrier. Offer sentence prayers throughout the day thanking God for your coworkers.\nBe still –  Light a candle and pause before the presence of God. Take a holy yoga class. Enjoy a cup of coffee on your deck. Listen for the voice of God.\n\nAs we embark on this Lenten journey\, may we approach Ash Wednesday with hearts open to transformation and renewal. Let us embrace this sacred season as an opportunity to deepen our faith\, seek forgiveness\, and draw closer to God and one another.

DESCRIPTION:Halloween Costume Drive \nWhat do you do with those old Halloween Costumes?  The Children’s Council is starting now to collect new or gently used costumes for costume give away NEXT YEAR.  You may drop off costume donations from   Oct 15th – Nov. 12th.   \nSo start sorting through those Halloween Boxes to donate now or plan to donate this years costume.  The goal is that next year we’ll reuse costumes that otherwise might only be worn once.  Donate full costumes\, or masks\, wigs\, accessories.    \nThe average cost of a child’s halloween costume is between $20 – $40 dollars.  October is the beginning of the holiday season with added expenses facing family finances.  We can help each other by sharing costumes.

SUMMARY:Real Reward\, Devotion by Pastor Richard
DESCRIPTION:In last week’s devotion I mentioned the success of long-term commitment in a group of young men’s lives. Today I will tell you more about their story…        \n  One Tuesday night we were doing our mentoring thing. We ate dinner\, did homework\, and did our weekly devotion. Normally the boys could hardly sit still for the devotion time because afterwards we got to play basketball and run off a ton of energy. This night was a little different. We started our devotion and a couple of the boys were really being extraordinarily quiet and patient. They seemed to listen more than usual\, and they seemed to have something on their minds. \nAfter we prayed and began to move toward the gym for basketball\, four of the boys pulled me aside and asked me how to join the church. You see\, our goal was never to force Christ or make the kids feel guilty about not being a Christian or being involved in a church\, we just left that part up to God! We just talked about and showed them the love of Jesus through our commitment and actions. Needless to say\, I never expected them to want to join our church! God was moving in their lives\, and we were ready to be a part of their next steps in their faith journeys. These four boys were wanting to respond to the love of Christ they were finding in their lives. So\, I sat down with them and explained the process and asked why they wanted to do this\, all of the appropriate questions about faith in Christ and committing to the church community. I was humbled by their responses and willingness to commit. It was simple\, they were in a place where they were loved and cared for and wanted to remain a part of that community. They also were convinced that the source of that love was in Jesus Christ\, so they were ready! \nSoon enough\, the Sunday morning came that they were to make their profession of faith before the church and then be baptized. At that time I was serving a Baptist church\, and baptism was by immersion\, we had to dunk them all the way under! They requested that I Baptize them\, probably another one of the most humbling times in my ministry. \nNeither I\, nor they\, will forget their next test of their commitment. That cold February morning everything was ready\, except one thing\, the heater had gone out on the baptismal pool. The water temperature may have been fifty degrees! It was crazy cold. It was located on an outside wall of the sanctuary\, and it was nowhere near room temperature. I asked them if they wanted to wait until the next Sunday\, after we had it repaired. In their excitement\, all four kids said no way! We are doing this today! \nThat morning four youth nearly froze to death in declaring their love for Jesus and for that church who literally showed them the transformative love of Jesus. They were so excited about becoming part of the church\, and even more about becoming followers of Jesus. Even a little cold water would not and did not get in their way of adding their voices proclaiming the amazing love of Christ. \nSo\, ask yourself\, where have you seen God lately in your life? Where is He revealing the real reward He has for you? I have no doubt it is there\, you might have to do a little work to discover it! Look for it!
