DESCRIPTION:“Summer is right around the corner\, and it’s time to lend a helping hand! Harrisburg United Methodist Church has been called upon to support our Summer Kids program by providing NUTRI GRAIN Breakfast Bars. \nThe Pantry has projected a need for 600 bars to meet the demand. Fortunately\, this is an achievable goal. Each value pack contains 16 bars and typically costs between $5 to $6\, depending on the store. With simple math\, it’s evident that we only need approximately 37 and a half people to donate a single value pack to reach our target. \nBut we’re not just collecting these bars; we’re turning them into something truly special. The church plans to take the boxes of NUTRI GRAIN Breakfast Bars and construct a castle—a symbol of hope and community solidarity. Each box represents more than just a nutritious breakfast; it embodies the support and care of our community for those in need. \nLet’s come together as a community to ensure that our children have nutritious breakfast options throughout the summer and to build a castle of hope for them. Your contribution\, no matter how small\, can make a significant difference in the lives of these kids. Thank you for your support!”

DESCRIPTION:Sunday Morning Study for Parents Begins April 7 \nToday’s children and youth are growing up in a world much different than their parents. The access to information and availability of immediate gratification and response in all of our lives has created a culture where so many of our kids are finding themselves searching for identity\, belonging and purpose. In the church we have prided ourselves on growing up “good kids\,” and we have “good kids” in our churches. What we really need are children with strong Christ-like character. The difference between the two is action and motivation. A child with strong character will stand up for others and will be more confident in who they are as a person\, than just a person who is good. DESCRIPTION:Worship with us \nAsh Wednesday Worship\, February 14th\, 6:30pm \nAsh Wednesday invites us to reflect on our lives\, acknowledging our shortcomings and sins\, and seeking forgiveness and reconciliation with God and others. It’s a time to turn away from distractions and focus on deepening our relationship with the divine. \nFollowing Ash Wednesday\, the season of Lent unfolds—a period of fasting\, and prayer.  There are a number of ways to honor Ash Wednesday and the 40 days of Lent within your daily routines. Here are 3 of the 10 ideas suggested on UMC.org \n\n“Giving something up for Lent” is a common practice for many Christians. Often\, we give up a favorite food or try to kick a bad habit during Lent. When the change or challenge you set for yourself starts to waver pause for prayer. These practices help you to draw closer to God\, emulate the sacrificial life of Jesus\, and prepare your hearts for the celebration of Easter.\nPray your day – Pray for the drivers of the vehicles and fellow mass transit passengers with whom you share your commute. Pray as you pass the hospital\, police station\, and government offices. Lift up the trash collector and mail carrier. Offer sentence prayers throughout the day thanking God for your coworkers.\nBe still –  Light a candle and pause before the presence of God. Take a holy yoga class. Enjoy a cup of coffee on your deck. Listen for the voice of God.\n\nAs we embark on this Lenten journey\, may we approach Ash Wednesday with hearts open to transformation and renewal. Let us embrace this sacred season as an opportunity to deepen our faith\, seek forgiveness\, and draw closer to God and one another.

DESCRIPTION:Halloween Costume Drive \nWhat do you do with those old Halloween Costumes?  The Children’s Council is starting now to collect new or gently used costumes for costume give away NEXT YEAR.  You may drop off costume donations from   Oct 15th – Nov. 12th.   \nSo start sorting through those Halloween Boxes to donate now or plan to donate this years costume.  The goal is that next year we’ll reuse costumes that otherwise might only be worn once.  Donate full costumes\, or masks\, wigs\, accessories.    \nThe average cost of a child’s halloween costume is between $20 – $40 dollars.  October is the beginning of the holiday season with added expenses facing family finances.  We can help each other by sharing costumes.

DESCRIPTION:Church is a place where our kids can learn the truth about God and how to build a relationship with Him. It’s a place where they can meet Him\, worship Him\, and dig deeper into His word. Church teaches children to serve and love others\, and to come as they are to a God who loves them unconditionally. That’s the kind of place we want our children to feel part of. Making church a priority plants the seed for young children so as they  get older church feels like another home. Harrisburg UMC is dedicated to building a Christian foundation for our children.  We have Sunday School\, and we’re starting a children’s choir\, and Master Builders in another fun space for us to teach our children about Jesus.  Did I mention lots of lego’s are a big part of Master Builders. \nJoin us on September 10th at 3:30 p.m. for a parent/kid informational session.\nMaster Builders is a fun group for children Kindergarten to the 5th Grade.\nThey meet on the 2nd & 4th Sunday of the Month in the church Fellowship Hall\nQuestions: administration@harrisburgumc.org

DESCRIPTION:HUMC is collecting school supplies for both teachers and students.  Studies have shown that starting the school year with the necessary school supplies promotes learning\, boosts self-esteem\, and helps keep kids in school. \nTeachers appreciate: White Board Black Markers Hand Sanitizer\, Color Pencils\, Tissues\, Paper Towels\, Disinfectant Wipes\, copy paper. \nStudents Need:  #2 yellow pencils\, colored markers\, glue sticks\, composition books\, pocket folders\, rulers\, pink erasers\, 3″x5″ Index cards.  For those wanting to do a little more book bags are also needed. \nBring donations to the church and we’ll make sure a school in need will receive these donations.

We will be working together to pack 15\,000 meals and there is a job for everyone\, whether you’re age 3 or 103! Please use the link below to sign up to help us.
