SUMMARY:Join us on a Mission Project
DESCRIPTION:The missions team is planning a missions event February 22 at the Community CPR ministry in Whiteville\, NC.  (CPR connecting people and resources)  We will be organizing their warehouse\, possibly do a little painting in a workshop there on site\, and making a few deliveries. We plan to leave the church by 7 am and drive to Whiteville and  returning to Harrisburg by 7:30 pm. The missions team will provide sandwiches and chips for lunch.  Feel free to bring drinks and snacks. We will provide bottled water. \n  \nCommunity CPR Ministry\nFebruary 22 nd  7:00am – 7:30pm\nWe will meet at the church at 7:00 am\, drive to Whiteville to serve for the day and return home by 7:30 pm. We will be carpooling down together.\nAll ages welcome.\nPlease let us know you will be joining us by signing up on the sign up genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E084BA9A722A3FC1-community1 .\n\nAbout Community CPR\nCommunity CPR is a nonprofit organization in Whiteville\, NC founded by Rev. Toni Ruth Smith’s cousin\, Wallyce Todd\, after Hurricane Matthew as a way of addressing unmet needs in the rural Columbus County. CCPR continued to grow after Hurricane Florence – although its work has grown to encompass helping people with many of life’s crises and disasters (fire\, flood\, domestic violence and other displacement issues). They are a partner organization of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)\n\nCPR in the name stands for Connecting People and Resources\, which is exactly what the organization does:\n\nAs Wallyce Todd has explained: “There were needs that weren’t being met\, gaps that were not getting filled – and lots of it had to do with the absence of effective communication and intentional teamwork. Community CPR was created to stand in some of the gaps within our community. And to be a model for how other rural counties could address disaster and crisis-level community needs.”\n\nKnown for its warehouse in Whiteville (210 E. Walter St.)\, the community quickly became aware of making donations there as well as receiving home goods and furniture during times of crisis or disaster. The organization can provide safe drinking water through a state-of-the-art filtration system as well as providing other material needs such as clothing\, diapers\, baby formula\, wheelchairs and more. But it’s also a safe and inviting place for clients to meet one-on-one with a case worker or volunteer to assess an issue and look at a myriad of resources CCPR can tap to assist.\n\n“We do everything we can to help our clients\,” said Wallyce. “We share other helpful resources offered by other nonprofits\, worship centers\, government agencies\, etc. When we can\, we make phone calls\, send emails and make visits – all in an effort to connect people with the resources they need. We could not do any of this without our dedicated team of donors and volunteers. It truly is our mission to be #neighborshelpingneighbors… people who choose to be examples of ‘love with boots on the ground\,'” she said.

SUMMARY:Podcast Discussion

This study is limited to 7 women\, format will be every other week at 7 p.m. on Thursday’s starting Feb.20th.   \nRegister here! \nEach participant will listen to the podcast prior to meeting.  Each are 25 minutes or less.  Taking time to reflect on what strikes a chord.  What raises your blood pressure.  What brings on a light bulb moment.  Eve Putt will prepare a discussion based on the Podcast and your weekly input. A online group will be created where the group can share content/feedback/thoughts/ideas\, as we spend the days between putting the resolutions into practice (or not l0l) \nShirer explains how today’s women can and should live out their own resolution. It is “a defining banner that hangs over your life\, written in the ink of your own choices.” A woman’s banner should be an accurate reflection of who she desires to be—someone completely Christ-centered who blesses and changes things in her world for the better.

SUMMARY:Learn to lead a Small Group
DESCRIPTION:Small Groups are a really important part of what we do here at Harrisburg UMC and we are always working to improve and grow our small group ministry. To do that\, we need people who are willing to help – we need you! Part of how you can help is to learn more about what it means to be a small group leader. \nThe Adult Education Team will be offering Small Group Leader Information Sessions in the church library on Sunday\, October 6th from 5:00-6:30 and again on Sunday\, October 13th from 5:00-6:30. Both of these sessions are the same\, so you will only need to attend whichever one works best for you. These sessions are for folks who are interested in learning more about what it means to lead a small group. We will be discussing why small groups are so vital for discipleship\, the importance of small group leaders\, and expectations for small group leaders. \nIf you are interested in attending or just have questions about the information sessions or small groups in general\, please contact Pastor Wes or the Chair of Adult Ed\, Becky Ortega (rebeccaortegaslp@gmail.com)

SUMMARY:Ash Wednesday\, March 6th\, 6:30 p.m.
DESCRIPTION:Ash Wednesday Worship\, March 6th\, 6:30 p.m. \nWhy ashes on Ash Wednesday? \nAsh Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting\, repentance\, moderation and spiritual discipline. \nAsh Wednesday emphasizes two themes: our sinfulness before God and our human mortality. The service focuses on both themes\, helping us to realize that both have been triumphed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. \nDuring some Ash Wednesday services\, the minister will lightly rub the sign of the cross with ashes onto the foreheads of worshipers. The use of ashes as a sign of mortality and repentance has a long history in Jewish and Christian worship. Historically\, ashes signified purification and sorrow for sins. \nIt is traditional to save the palm branches from the previous Palm Sunday service to burn to produce ashes for this service. Sometimes a small card or piece of paper is distributed on which each person writes a sin or hurtful or unjust characteristic. The cards are then brought to the altar to be burned with the palm branches. The ash cross on the forehead is an outward sign of our sorrow and repentance for sins. \n— Adapted from The United Methodist Book of Worship
