We will decorate cookies where we will eat one and give one to guests at Room in the Inn. We will also be making Christmas Cards for our church shut ins. If this is not enough\, we will hear a Christmas Story from pastor Wes and some really cool guitar music\, play a Christmas themed game\, have some snacks and even sings some Christmas Carols as we celebrate the coming of God into our world! DESCRIPTION:Small Groups are a really important part of what we do here at Harrisburg UMC and we are always working to improve and grow our small group ministry. To do that\, we need people who are willing to help – we need you! Part of how you can help is to learn more about what it means to be a small group leader. \nThe Adult Education Team will be offering Small Group Leader Information Sessions in the church library on Sunday\, October 6th from 5:00-6:30 and again on Sunday\, October 13th from 5:00-6:30. Both of these sessions are the same\, so you will only need to attend whichever one works best for you. These sessions are for folks who are interested in learning more about what it means to lead a small group. DESCRIPTION:Ash Wednesday Worship\, March 6th\, 6:30 p.m. \nWhy ashes on Ash Wednesday?  \nAsh Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting\, repentance\, moderation and spiritual discipline. \nAsh Wednesday emphasizes two themes: our sinfulness before God and our human mortality. The service focuses on both themes\, helping us to realize that both have been triumphed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. \nDuring some Ash Wednesday services\, the minister will lightly rub the sign of the cross with ashes onto the foreheads of worshipers. The use of ashes as a sign of mortality and repentance has a long history in Jewish and Christian worship. Historically\, ashes signified purification and sorrow for sins. \nIt is traditional to save the palm branches from the previous Palm Sunday service to burn to produce ashes for this service. Sometimes a small card or piece of paper is distributed on which each person writes a sin or hurtful or unjust characteristic. The cards are then brought to the altar to be burned with the palm branches. The ash cross on the forehead is an outward sign of our sorrow and repentance for sins. \n— Adapted from The United Methodist Book of Worship

DESCRIPTION:Ash Wednesday Worship\, March 6\, 6:30 p.m. \nWhy ashes on Ash Wednesday?  \nAsh Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting\, repentance\, moderation and spiritual discipline. \nAsh Wednesday emphasizes two themes: our sinfulness before God and our human mortality. The service focuses on both themes\, helping us to realize that both have been triumphed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. \nDuring some Ash Wednesday services\, the minister will lightly rub the sign of the cross with ashes onto the foreheads of worshipers. The use of ashes as a sign of mortality and repentance has a long history in Jewish and Christian worship. Historically\, ashes signified purification and sorrow for sins. \nIt is traditional to save the palm branches from the previous Palm Sunday service to burn to produce ashes for this service. Sometimes a small card or piece of paper is distributed on which each person writes a sin or hurtful or unjust characteristic. The cards are then brought to the altar to be burned with the palm branches. The ash cross on the forehead is an outward sign of our sorrow and repentance for sins. \n— Adapted from The United Methodist Book of Worship
